Illustrating a Master's Thesis

A series of caricature illustrations exploring exaggeration, character, and visual storytelling as part of my master's thesis research.

Context

This caricature series was developed as part of the visual research for the master's thesis of a relative. The work explores intercultural differences with a focus on France and Germany.

Rather than aiming for strict likeness, the approach focuses on identifying distinctive visual features, posture, facial proportions, and expression, and amplifying them through stylized illustration.

Visual approach

  • I was provided with phrases/ideas to illustrate
  • I then reviewed and adapted them with the author of the thesis
  • I focused on gesture and expression rather than detail
